How to install group printers on your desktop computer

Overview

We have several high-volume private group printers on the fourth floor of SPH II and in the Tower. Use the following directions to install them on common desktop operating systems.

General Information

Drivers for the Canon LBP 6780 may not be included in your operating system by default. To download drivers for the Canon printer, please visit the URL:

Windows 10/11

Please follow along for the configuration of printers on a Windows 11 machine:

Make sure your PC is connected to either MWireless wifi network or Wired Ethernet at your office cubicle/desk at one of the SPH buildings.

1. Click on Windows logo menu (aka Start menu) then search for “printers & scanners” and open the best match in system settings.

2. Click the “Add a printer or scanner” button near the top of the window as shown in the below image.

3. Click "The printer that I want isn't listed" near the bottom of the dialog box that pops up as shown below:

4. Select "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname" and click next in the bottom:

5. Leave Device type as Autodetect,

For Hostname or IP address:

A.For the printer in room M4650 suite use IP: 10.211.10.92 as shown below,

B.There are two printers(brand:brother) in room M4125:

(i) For model HL-L6200DW(Black colour) model use IP: 10.211.10.71, (ii) For model HL-L8260CDW use IP : 10.211.9.119

C.For port name: Enter any name you wish or take the suggested one.

D.Click on query the printer and automatically select the driver to use. The click on next button.

6. Query the printer option works only if you have drivers already installed on the machine if not you can find the latest drivers on their company websites, you can search for the desired model drivers and install them on your personal machine. You can find the links at the bottom of this document.

7. If you already have the driver’s installed on your machine, it will automatically select that for you. If not, then you will see the option to select the brand and driver yourself as below. If you are doing it for the first time on your PC, you will not see the manufacturer, click on windows update button in the bottom, so that windows update it for you in case you installed in your system.

8. Give this printer a desired name per your wish. Click next.

9. Select Share this printer so that others on your network can find and use it option. Give share name as BIO_Cannon_M4650, Location: M4650

10. Specify whether or not you want to set this printer as your default printer, then click Next.

11. Print a test page to be sure the printer driver is installed correctly, then click Finish.

Printer drivers Installation:

You can find the latest drivers on their respective company websites, you can search for the desired model drivers and install them on your personal machine. Below are the links:

For printers in M4125 room, you can download the drivers for both models below and install them. Model names: HL-L6200DW and HL-L8260CDW.

Mac OS

Please follow along for the configuration of printers on a Mac OS machine:

Make sure your MAC is connected to either MWireless wifi network or Wired Ethernet at your office cubical/desk at one of the SPH buildings.

1. Open system preferences from your MAC OS system

2. Click on Printers & Scanners. Add Printer or Scanner as shown below

3. Select IP in the centre option as show in the 2nd picture and fill the details as :

A. For the printer in room M4650 suite use IP: 10.211.10.92 , ->There are two printers(brand:brother) in room M4125: (i) For model HL-L6200DW(Black colour) model use IP: 10.211.10.71, (ii) For model HL-L8260CDW use IP : 10.211.9.119 B. For protocol select HP JetDirect – Socket as below C. Give it a desired name and location as you wish.

4. In the use drop down, choose select software option.

5. If you have installed the printer driver software on your machine, it will open a pop-up window as below, you can search and select the desired brand model number from the list. If you didn’t install driver software, you can find the links at the bottom of this page.

6. Later it will get added to your printers list. You can set this as your default printer and give it a test page to print.
